Positive Discipline Parenting Program — Program Description
North Capitol Collaborative, Inc. (NCCI) offers Positive Discipline Parenting Classes facilitated by three trained Positive Discipline educators. This evidence-based program is grounded in the work of Dr. Jane Nelsen and is designed to strengthen parent-child relationships while equipping caregivers with practical tools to manage challenging behaviors in respectful and effective ways.
Positive Discipline focuses on teaching social and life skills through a balance of kindness and firmness. Parents learn to understand the beliefs behind children’s behavior and to use encouragement rather than punishment or excessive praise. Through interactive, experiential learning activities and role-play, participants practice real-life strategies in a supportive group setting.
Parents gain access to more than 52 practical tools to address common challenges such as tantrums, power struggles, limit-setting, and communication breakdowns. Skills include holding effective family meetings, setting clear boundaries with empathy, problem-solving collaboratively, and building long-term cooperation and responsibility in children.
Classes will be offered in 6-week workshop series, meeting twice per week (Tuesdays and Thursdays) for two hours per session, beginning in March 2026. After each 6-week cycle, there will be a two-week break before the next cohort begins. Sessions are offered in person and are led by certified facilitators trained in Positive Discipline methods, with adaptations available for families with young children and early childhood needs.
